Since May 2019, we have been planning our most ambitious and audacious public art intervention – to provoke but also inspire hope in a moment of fear and demagoguery.
The School of Good Citizenship is an expansive 6-day series of cultural events aimed at sparking a public conversation about democracy, whose voice gets heard and voting rights.
• Visual art exhibitions
• Public art
• Film screenings
• Spoken word poetry
• Panels
• Artist workshops
Taking place over three weekends bookending the Republican Convention We have partnered with the Levine Museum of the New South, The Light Factory, UNC-Charlotte, Community Building Initiative, International House, Johnson C. Smith University and Working Films to reach the broadest, geographically diverse communities in Charlotte. Our intention is to combine present tense action for engagement and transformation with the seeds for future action to affect change for years to come.
A project of this scope requires resources, time and a big budget. We need your help. Please support this project with a tax-deductible donation of $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 or more.
Contributions are tax-deductible via our fiscal sponsor The Standby Program, a 501(c)3 non-profit artist services organization in NYC. Donate Now
The School of Good Citizenship’s vision and project has the capacity for enacting social change in our community during a critical time, hosting the RNC, and beyond.

Levine Museum of the New South
Drawing on over one decade of installing temporary public artworks of colossal word sculptures, 4,000 pounds or more, carved from ice at both political conventions, the Charlotte public work will be more community based and more interactive, amplifying outreach to the public through partnerships with local artists and institutions.
Thank you for joining us in making the School of Good Citizenship a reality.
